Bow Tie Made For A Pitbull!

This craft was inspired by two people. First Lionel Messi, if you have no idea who he is then you need to Google him then slap yourself for not paying attention to soccer. We are HUGE soccer fans at my house and last week when he accepted his award, he had on the most AWESOME polka dot suit! How could I pass up the opportunity!

Since my house is full of estrogen (1 Mama, 2 little girls, female dog & female cat), I try really hard not to force my husband into too many projects. One is his limit, I know the rules! My husband actually suggested my "subject", Roland.

Yes, he is a pitbull and before you go crazy on me, he is actually very sweet and well mannered! Even though his neck does measure 22", he is quite a lover not a fighter! What better way to show it than with his own bow tie! Isn't he quite dapper?!

(Love this picture because I can't tell if he is mad or he is just posing for the camera!)

This was by far one of the easiest projects I have attempted to sew lately. I used the waist of an old pair of sweatpants for the collar (cheating I know that was the point!) and some scraps of fabric I had from Halloween (black polka dots) and Christmas (soccer balls).

Basically, I sewed on the bias tape then Velcro. (I made it adjustable because he is still a baby. He needs room to grow)

For the actual bow tie, I cut 2 squares in each fabric, one a little smaller. Then put right sides together sewed around outside, make sure and leave an opening to turn fabric inside out. Then I hand stitched the bow tie exactly how I wanted it to pleat.

Attached the bow tie to the collar and there you have it. A bow tie made for a Pitbull!

I'm sharing my project at....

Not ANOTHER TuTu Tutorial!!

That's right I AM doing a tutorial on a Tutu!

It's quite easy! All you need is some ribbon the length of the waist in need of a Tutu with big knots in both ends and some tulle. I used about 6-7 yards of tulle. (If you buy it by-the-yard instead of on the roll, you get more for your money!) I did use both the roll version and the by-the-yard version, I love different textures!

Next cut a lot of strips about 4"-6" width strips, it doesn't have to be exact. Get one strip fold in half and place behind the ribbon.

Bring the ends up and through the loop (around the ribbon).

Then pull back down until tight. Fill up the ribbon and you have your very own Tutu!

The first person that comments on this post will receive their very own Tutu made by ME!! All you will have to do in return is put my button on your blog and of course you HAVE to follow my blog! So leave a link to your blog so I can get in touch! You have 24 hours to reply, if a no-show then I will move down the line! So COMMENT!!

Day 8 - Pony Tail & Hairclip Organizer

Day 8

After getting sick and tired of picking up pony tail holders and hair clips from all over the bathroom, I decide today was the day to conquer them. I saw this idea in an Arts & Crafts Fair in Lincoln Park in Chicago about a year ago. I couldn't resist the urge to try and share this awesome craft!

It's really cheap to make which makes this craft even better. You will need a picture frame (minus the glass), some fabric for the flower and background, some wooden clips, paint, hot glue gun and some embellishments! (I went to the Dollar Tree and got the frame and the wooden clips both $1 each! All the fabric and ribbon were scraps. The cupcakes are actually brads used for scrap booking!)

I was quite lazy about painting this project and opted for the spray paint! Great short cut which I am always looking for these days. I spray painted both the wooden clips and the frame at the same time.

Next I cut a piece of fabric for the background and hot glued it to the back of the picture frame.

I found 3 fabrics that I thought went well with the theme, made a flower shape template and cut 2 flowers from each fabric.

Next you layer the flowers in contrasting directions and hand stitch a circle in the middle for gathering.

Gather up your ends nice and tight until you have this...wrap the thread around the base of the flower a couple of times and tie a knot

I hot glued the flower down and started gluing down the rest.

Now you have a pony tail holder and hair clip organizer to hang on the wall in your bathroom!

So what do you think would be a great craft to try? Leave a comment let me know what you have been up to lately. I would love to pop over but make sure you have some chocolate waiting!

Everyday Craft - Day 7 - Kid's Blanket Shrug

Day 7

You would think that my kids would be so happy that I made something for them, right? Think again Missy!

This craft was inspired from a Christmas present I received from my mom. It was the Wal-Mart version of a blanket shrug. I can't remember the name of it ...its not snuggie, slanket, or blug or I don't know! The name of it is not important. What is important is the fact that I have lived in this Wal-Mart  knock-off version of a blanket shrug since I got it on Christmas Day! Don't judge me save it for your momma or your llama!

All you need is some fleece, sewing machine, scissors, tape measure and some creativity for embellishing it!

Next I measured my daughters from elbow to elbow for width then from shoulder to mid thigh, double that for your length. The most wonderful thing about the fleece fabrics is the don't fray!!

Once you have it cut out, fold in half length wise then find the center of the width. Cut half the length.

If I was going to give this away I would put a 1/4" seam around the edges but since it's for my kids, I just surged the edges!

I added a iPhone/iPod pocket and personalized with initials and voila....a knock-off of a knock-off of an infomerical!!

I have really got to quit giving my kids reasons to NOT get dressed in the morning!! (Notice the pinkie! She thought it added some class!)

There are lots of ways to embellish this craft: bling, fabric paint, embroidery, pocket for back scratcher (husband idea!). The possibilities are endless!! Let me know how yours turns out!

Don't tell anyone but next year for Christmas, this is what EVERYONE is getting!!

Saturday

Cloth Pumpkins

For the first day of Autumn, I decided to make something season inspired. Here's what I have been working on today. Cloth pumpkin...it doesn't get old and moldy. So when you have that "unusual" smell here in the next couple of weeks, you know its definitively because you need to clean not decaying pumpkins.

First I free handed my template and cut out 6 pieces.

Next I simply put right sides together and sewed down one side. Make sure that you don't start at the very top and don't sew to the very bottom. You need an opening in order to turn it right side out and to stuff!

Next you once again place right sides together and sew down one side until you have a complete pumpkin. Through the opening at the top turn it right side out then stuff to desired fullness.

Next I just grabbed the top points and twisted then shoved it through to the bottom opening. I sewed a straight stitch across the bottom. (Be sure that you include both the top and bottom opening.)

Then I went out in the backyard found a stick that was the desired length, tied a ribbon around the stick and you have a already dead pumpkin!! Now its your turn to try!!
