Day 8 - Pony Tail & Hairclip Organizer

Day 8

After getting sick and tired of picking up pony tail holders and hair clips from all over the bathroom, I decide today was the day to conquer them. I saw this idea in an Arts & Crafts Fair in Lincoln Park in Chicago about a year ago. I couldn't resist the urge to try and share this awesome craft!

It's really cheap to make which makes this craft even better. You will need a picture frame (minus the glass), some fabric for the flower and background, some wooden clips, paint, hot glue gun and some embellishments! (I went to the Dollar Tree and got the frame and the wooden clips both $1 each! All the fabric and ribbon were scraps. The cupcakes are actually brads used for scrap booking!)

I was quite lazy about painting this project and opted for the spray paint! Great short cut which I am always looking for these days. I spray painted both the wooden clips and the frame at the same time.

Next I cut a piece of fabric for the background and hot glued it to the back of the picture frame.

I found 3 fabrics that I thought went well with the theme, made a flower shape template and cut 2 flowers from each fabric.

Next you layer the flowers in contrasting directions and hand stitch a circle in the middle for gathering.

Gather up your ends nice and tight until you have this...wrap the thread around the base of the flower a couple of times and tie a knot

I hot glued the flower down and started gluing down the rest.

Now you have a pony tail holder and hair clip organizer to hang on the wall in your bathroom!

So what do you think would be a great craft to try? Leave a comment let me know what you have been up to lately. I would love to pop over but make sure you have some chocolate waiting!

Everyday Craft - Day 7 - Kid's Blanket Shrug

Day 7

You would think that my kids would be so happy that I made something for them, right? Think again Missy!

This craft was inspired from a Christmas present I received from my mom. It was the Wal-Mart version of a blanket shrug. I can't remember the name of it ...its not snuggie, slanket, or blug or I don't know! The name of it is not important. What is important is the fact that I have lived in this Wal-Mart  knock-off version of a blanket shrug since I got it on Christmas Day! Don't judge me save it for your momma or your llama!

All you need is some fleece, sewing machine, scissors, tape measure and some creativity for embellishing it!

Next I measured my daughters from elbow to elbow for width then from shoulder to mid thigh, double that for your length. The most wonderful thing about the fleece fabrics is the don't fray!!

Once you have it cut out, fold in half length wise then find the center of the width. Cut half the length.

If I was going to give this away I would put a 1/4" seam around the edges but since it's for my kids, I just surged the edges!

I added a iPhone/iPod pocket and personalized with initials and voila....a knock-off of a knock-off of an infomerical!!

I have really got to quit giving my kids reasons to NOT get dressed in the morning!! (Notice the pinkie! She thought it added some class!)

There are lots of ways to embellish this craft: bling, fabric paint, embroidery, pocket for back scratcher (husband idea!). The possibilities are endless!! Let me know how yours turns out!

Don't tell anyone but next year for Christmas, this is what EVERYONE is getting!!

Monday

Everyday Craft - Day 6 - Scarf Organizer

Day 6

Bet you never thought you would hear from me again?! I know it's Monday so what if I didn't post on Sunday?! Even God rested on the 7th day!!

For this easy little craft all you really need is some cheap shower curtain rings, old ribbon doesn't matter about lengths (I used scraps), a hanger and your trusty hot glue gun. (I got my shower curtain rings at the Dollar Tree and I know what you are thinking about my many different uses with a hanger!)

Just hot glue the ribbon around the rings make sure to tuck and pull tight!
Then just attach the rings to bottom of hanger!

It really did clear up a bunch of space!

Spruce up the hanger too! You could add some matching ribbon to it or sew a cover for it or paint the hanger! Why not? Maybe I will try that sometime!

Keep checking back! I have got some more great crafts coming this week!

Saturday

Everyday Craft - Day 5

Here I go again....

Day 5

I should be getting numerous pats on the back for actually completing 5 days of crafts!! I'll settle for a couple of comments, nice comments!

Anyways, so today I decided to make a bag for that label machine! Supplies needed are two pieces of fabric (18" x 7.5" perfect fit for my machine), some Velcro and a label machine! For the fabric I used a piece of cotton and one piece of oilcloth cut to perfection!

Sidebar:If you have never used oilcloth then I suggest you grab some! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Oilcloth Addict! I also grabbed some of their laminated organic cotton, OMG, I'm ADDICTED!!

I also added a piece of black oilcloth just as bias tape at the ends for nice finish!

Simply surge the two pieces (right sides together) then fold backwards with right side showing. Straight stitch to hold down.

Here is a picture of what other side should look like pinned!

Next with right sides together simply surge down the two sides. Be sure to keep the ends open.

Turn inside out then attach the Velcro. I don't like seams showing on the outside so I make sure that the side of the flap that faces upward doesn't have the sewing seams. Then pin down the edges of cotton fabric to match the oilcloth seam and straight stitch it in place.

Next measure actually how big you want the bag to be and pin it.

Surge down both sides....

Voila...

You have a bag for your label machine!!

Is it weird that I want to make a label for the label machine?!

Friday

Everyday Craft - Day 4

*Whoever said there was no such thing as mistakes has never crafted with me before, just forewarning you!!

The idea behind this craft came from the fact that I am sick and tired of picking up my 4 years old jewelry! Also I picked up these screw knobs from the Hob Lob couple months ago. They were on sale AND then they got moved to clearance so that's more off! Gotta love some double blessings!

Side bar: Notice how selfish I am, ME, ME, ME! All my crafts have been about making my life easier! I guess the world does revolve around me!

Back to it, My vision for this project was more of a light pink but somehow I ended up with bright RED! Then my husband, the one who refuses to let me touch his Dewalt drill, came home at lunch just to drill my holes. (Get your mind out of the gutter, girl! This is a PG, PG-13, OK clean "R" rated blog). I guess the nooner threw him off so the holes are lopsided!!!

So to complete this red-neck craft you need a scrap piece of wood (the other end of the stands for ribbon roll organizer), a piece of sand paper or sanding block whatever is handy, some paint remember around the house, some cheap Hob Lob knobs, a husband to drill your holes, and some creativity!

Basically, drill some holes (pre-drill the holes for the knobs also!), sand down the rough spots. Then I used some linseed oil on the wood to get it ready to paint.

As you can tell the light pink turned very much bright red! You can't tell by the picture but I added a gold glitter top coat with the grain of the wood. It gave it more bling!

I hope these crafts inspire you to craft with what you got! They may not turn out exactly as planned but hey at least they turned out?!

You better redneckognize!

Thursday

Everyday Craft - Day 3

Day 3

You can thank my mom for this red-neck craft!
Yes my mom drinks (too much) and she loves pink so what could be better than a pink liquor bottle and pink roses?!!

You will need a bottle (doesn't have to be alcohol but if you ask my mom she would say it does), some plastic flowers and some ribbon!

Adjust the flowers to look beautiful and voila another red-neck craft! Maybe I should change it to one red-neck craft a day? We'll see!

I am off to dream of new red-neck crafts!!

Crafting Everyday - Day 2

Day 2
I have noticed that with the New Year has come with lots of new organizing for me. Don't get me wrong I organize everyday but not to the point of labeling but this New Year has new things in store for me. I think one being organizing to the point of labeling! Not only can I think the New Year for this but probably also my mother! Apparently Office Depot had a great deal on a label machine at some point during the "Holidays"!

Back to crafting...
After continually getting mad at my ribbon rolls this past 3 day marathon of sewing Christmas presents at the last minute, I decide it was time for a ribbon roll organizer. I know you have seen them everywhere right? Well have you seen one out of a broken hanger?

All you need is a couple of broken plastic hangers, couple pieces of scrap wood, a husband who won't let you touch his Dewalt drill and a wire cutter.

Yeah, yeah....you cut the hanger so you have one complete rod..

Have your husband drill you some holes in pieces of scrap wood and voila you have a red-neck ribbon organizer!

I wonder what craft I will fall into tomorrow?!...
